What is a Super Visa?

The Super Visa allows parents and grandparents to visit their children or grandchildren who are either Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Unlike a regular visitor visa, which only allows short-term stays, the Super Visa is valid for up to 10 years and permits stays of up to 2 years per visit. This makes it an ideal option for families who want their parents or grandparents to stay in Canada for extended periods.

Eligibility for the Super Visa:

To apply for a Super Visa, the following conditions must be met:

• Child or Grandchild’s Sponsorship:
  The applicant must be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who can issue a formal invitation to visit Canada.

• Financial Requirements:
  The child or grandchild inviting their parent or grandparent must meet a minimum income threshold, known as the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO), to demonstrate their ability to financially support them during their stay.

• Medical Insurance:
  Applicants must provide proof of private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that is valid for at least 1 year and offers at least $100,000 in coverage for health care, hospitalization, and repatriation.

• Medical Examination:
  A medical examination may be required to ensure the parent or grandparent meets health standards set by Canadian immigration authorities.
